The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017): Film Review

In 2014, a milestone was set in the animated film industry. One of the most famous toy companies in the world, Lego, combined forces with Warner Brothers to create the animated masterpiece known as The Lego Movie. The film received high praise from critics and fans alike, and smashed the box office both domestically and internationally. Three years later, the first spinoff movie, The Lego Batman Movie dropped into theatres, maintaining all the elements of a good animated movie while creating a new plot and new characters to meet and love. The film did well at box office, but not nearly as well as The Lego Movie did. Seven months later, the third film in the Lego franchise was released: The Lego Ninjago Movie. The film had high expectations, with a star-studded cast and a promising plot, but sadly, the film did not live up to those expectations. The Lego Ninjago Movie is a sad nod to a promising movie franchise. The film doesn't use any of the elements that made the other Lego movies so great, which is one of the many reasons the film is so bad. The film is downright boring, with an obvious lack of creativity, humor, and entertainment. The film is extremely slow and too long, capping off at almost two hours. The character development is laughable, with each character getting more annoying as the film goes on. I spent more time checking my phone for the time instead of watching the actual movie. The film is completely the opposite of the first two, it's completely unbearable to watch. This film has to be one of the most disappointing animated movies ever, up in the ranks with horrible animated movies like the second and third Cars movies. Take this advice: stick to The Lego Movie or The Lego Batman Movie, because The Lego Ninjago Movie is a complete waste of time. Trust me.
